A good solution for frequently retooled machines - "SOM".
“SOM” is a system for programming machines and devices with a PC-class controller under the control of the Windows XP or Windows XP Embedded operating system. An individual version of the “SOM” system is prepared for each machine and device, with functions specific to it.
This system is able to control almost all Progen modules or PC104 I/O Cards. It can be an element managing distributed control, e.g. RS485 or USB. The system has been designed to enable the easiest possible programming in a situation where there is no keyboard available but only a touch screen. The keyboard can also be used, but it is not a necessary element.
System Features:

- Support for stepping (optional);
- Many built-in functions and syntax with conditions, loops, jumps, comments are available;
- Fast saving and loading of programs;
- Password protection for program editing;
- Clear program visualization.
Programming takes place in a dedicated editing environment and execution is supervised by the System. Two main subsystems work during program operation: the management system and the user program.
The management system works all the time and supervises the main emergency events, responds to events from interface elements (buttons, controllers, joysticks, etc.), supports indicators, lamps, sound signals and visual elements of the interface and starts and controls the work of the user program. There are a number of interactions between both systems that can be used when writing a program. The system is also equipped with tools that facilitate synchronization between threads of the user program.
It is possible to write and save many programs that will be quickly selected depending on the needs. Therefore, this System qualifies as a good solution in a situation where it is necessary to change the method of operation frequently.
Each program consists of threads that work independently of each other. Their maximum number is limited only by the computer’s performance. As standard, however, the programming environment has support for three threads. Another number is determined by the manufacturer at the stage of creating a dedicated “SOM” system for a given machine.
Program editing can only be performed by authorized persons. This is achieved by password protection of access to editing functions.
